Our Journey
Our story begins with a bold vision to revolutionise laser education in Australia and beyond. Founded in 2021 by Dr Shobhan Manoharan, a world-renowned dermatologist and pioneer in laser dermatology, DermEd was born out of a desire to transform the way advanced laser and aesthetic training is delivered.
In its early stages, DermEd was offered exclusively to a closed group of industry professionals—dermatologists, cosmetic physicians, and dermal therapists—seeking to refine their skills under the mentorship of Dr Manoharan. These intimate, closed-group sessions allowed us to test, trial, and perfect our approach, ensuring that every aspect of our programs met the highest standards of excellence.
Over the past few years, we’ve honed our methodologies, developed our curriculum, and established a model of education that blends cutting-edge technology with evidence-based practice. Now, after much care and preparation, we’re thrilled to officially launch DermEd to the wider aesthetic industry across the Asia-Pacific region.

About Our Founders
DermEd was founded by Dr Shobhan Manoharan and Dr Patricia Manoharan, a husband-and-wife team whose combined expertise, vision, and passion for dermatology have redefined excellence in the field. Together, they bring a unique fusion of medical expertise, business acumen, and a shared commitment to advancing dermatological care and education in Australia and beyond.
Dr. Shobhan Manoharan MBBS FACD
Dr Shobhan Manoharan is one of Australia’s leading laser dermatologists, specialising in the use of energy-based devices for both medical and cosmetic dermatology. As Medical Director of Dermatology Clinics Australia and DermEd, he leverages decades of clinical experience and a deep understanding of cutting-edge treatments to educate and inspire the next generation of dermatology professionals. Dr Manoharan has a special interest in combination treatments for complicated scars, pigmentation, laser rejuvenation, and surgical & non-surgical skin cancer management.
A trailblazer in his field, Dr Manoharan’s career is marked by his leadership roles, including past Directorship of Training for the Australasian College of Dermatology (QLD), board member of the Australiasian Society of Cosmetic Dermatologists (ASCD), his tenure as consulting dermatologist for L’Oréal Paris, and his role as the medical founder of Brisbane Skin. His expertise in complex skin conditions and innovative approaches to dermatological treatments set the foundation for DermEd’s mission to empower practitioners with world-class training in advanced dermatology.
Dr Patricia Manoharan BSc PhD
Dr Patricia Manoharan brings visionary leadership, business management and clinic profitability expertise to DermEd. Renowned as the first in Australia to sell a specialist dermatology clinical practice to private equity, she transformed Brisbane Skin into an industry-leading practice, scaling it from a single employee to a thriving organisation of over 50 staff within just five years. Her ability to combine strategic foresight with operational excellence has revolutionised the accessibility and quality of dermatological care across Australia.
In 2022, Dr Patricia Manoharan founded Dermatology Clinics Australia, an organisation dedicated to providing specialist care for conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and vitiligo to patients in metropolitan and rural areas alike. By bridging geographical barriers through innovative care models, including telehealth and on-site nursing support, she continues to advance dermatological services for all Australians.
Together, Dr Shobhan and Dr Patricia Manoharan have established DermEd as a insitute that not only educates practitioners in advanced treatments but also embodies their shared vision for innovation, accessibility, and excellence in dermatology. Their combined expertise and unwavering passion for improving skin health make DermEd a leader in dermatological education and training.
