Laser License and Pre-requesite Propsective Student Information

At DermEd, our courses are designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on training that aligns with industry standards and licensing requirements across Australia. Due to differences in laser licensing regulations across states, please review the prerequisites carefully to ensure you meet the qualifications necessary to conduct treatments on patients in our practical programs.

Queensland Requirements:

In Queensland, a license is required to operate class 4class 4 laser devices for medical and cosmetic purposes. Prospective students who attend our practical training in our Queensland based facility must hold hold either:

  • Have a relevant Queensland Radiation Health Cosmetic or Medical Laser Use License, or License, or
  • a relevant relevant Trainee Use License, or
  • relevant meaning in the category of training you wish to undertake i.e. hair removal, skin rejuvenation, superficial capillary reduction, tattoo removal or general medical conditions, or
  • relevant meaning in the category of the training you wish to undertake – ie. hair removal, skin rejuvenation, superficial capillary reduction, tattoo removal or general medical conditions.

If you do not hold a QueenslandLaser Use License or a Trainee Use license, you will only be able to observe during the practical components of our laser training sessions. This requirement is strictly enforced to ensure compliance with Queensland’s health and safety regulations.

For those prospective students who wish to obtain their ‘Trainee Licence’ prior to their studies – please visit this link to apply.  Note processing times for trainee licenses can be considerable (often up to 12 weeks) so please apply early to ensure you have the appropriate licenses in time if you wish to perform treatments for your practical block. A Laser Safety Officer course is a standard pre-requisite.

We recommend that:

  • Prospective students check with their local regulatory bodies to confirm specific licensing requirements in their area to ensure that they are able to perform the treatments taught during our course in their home practise.
  • Students from states without licensing requirements ensure they meet any recommended training or certification standards in laser safety.

Our Admissions Team is available to help clarify prerequisites and provide guidance on licensing requirements based on your location and intended scope of practice. Please contact admin@dermed.com.au with any queries you may have.
